POMONA - Donald Wayne Etherton, 79, passed away at 12:05 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, in Carbondale, with his family by his side.
Donald was born July 15, 1929, in Jackson County, a son to the late Carvel and Burnette (Minter) Etherton.
He was united in marriage with Patricia Lou Perschbacher in Paragould, Ark., on Jan. 27, 1948. Patricia survives in rural Pomona.
Donald was a retired heavy equipment owner/operator and worked with the Operating Engineers. He was also a retired farmer. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed both hunting and fishing with his many friends. Donald was also a lifetime member and past master of the A.F. & A.M. 840 in Alto Pass.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday Oct. 31, 2008, in Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Don Grammer officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, near Murphysboro. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of rural Pomona; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Patrick and Yong Hue' Etherton of Fullerton, Calif.;, one grandson, Daniel M. Etherton, of Fullerton; two granddaughters; Vanessa (Tom) Ford of East Alton and Amber (Brian) Fleming of Grafton; five great-grandchildren, Dylan Ford of East Alton, Drake, Carlie, Eric and Genna Fleming of Grafton; one brother, Jack Etherton of Murphysboro; one sister-in-law and her husband, Judy and Bob Marble of Las Cruces, N.M.; three nieces; Shannon Thompson of Dallas and Jackie Gaffney and Lorraine Bizliazzi of Murphysboro; two nephews, Wiley C. (Tina) Thompson of West Point, N.Y. and Clint Etherton, of Murphysboro; one great-nephew; Noah Thompson; and one great-niece, Isabelle Thompson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Etherton Crews on Aug. 22, 1985.
