Jack R. Etherton, 86, of Owatonna, died Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Owatonna Hospital.
He was born February 16, 1926 in Pomona, Illinois the son of William and Bess (Westlund) Etherton. Jack graduated from Owatonna High School with the class of 1944 and then enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1944- 1946 with the 550th Field Artillery Unit. He then attended Mankato Teachers College for two years, and married Jo Ann Prestegard February 25, 1950 at the First Baptist Church in Owatonna. Jack worked for the Owatonna Public Utilities Company for thirty six years retiring in 1984 as supervisor of gas and electric. Jo Ann died June 24, 1991. Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was a past trustee and deacon. He was a member of the Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever, Minnesota Pheasants, American Legion, VFW, Kiwanis, Ducks Unlimited, Blooming Prairie Gun Club, and the NRA.
He is survived by two daughters, Wendy Evenson of Chanhassen, Jane Jensen of Woodbury, two grandsons Ryan and Nathan Jensen. He is also survived by his brother, William (and Janet) Etherton of Owatonna, and sister Peggy (and Milton) Olson of Faribault, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jo Ann, brother Eugene Etherton and sister Mary Etherton.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church on Friday November 23, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday November 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Brent V. Carlson officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to First Baptist Church or donor''s choice. A reception will be held immediately following the service at Michaelson Funeral Home.
