EAST PEORIA - Henry Allen Etherton, age 72, of East Peoria passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Henry was born on Dec. 30, 1941, in Murphysboro, Ill., to Benjamin Monroe and Mary Ellen (Toler) Etherton. He married Karen J. Webb on Feb. 16, 1963, in Peoria.
Henry is survived by his wife, Karen; his children, Tim Etherton of Deltona, Fla., Scott Etherton of Sanford, Fla., and Jennifer Etherton of the Philippines; two grandchildren, DJ and Justin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Benjamin Wayne Etherton. Henry served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. He then owned and operated Hank's Auto Service until he retired in 2009.
Henry was a member of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and the East Peoria Boat Club. Henry was considered a jack-of-all-trades. He was always tinkering and fixing things and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Spring Bay Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Memorials may be made to the Spring Bay Fire and Ambulance Service.
