Funeral services for Garland J. Stanford are scheduled for Monday, October 29, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church in Honey Grove, TX with Rev. Rodney Stanford, Rev. Randy Derity and Rev. Jake Caylor presiding. Family visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Serving as Pallbearers will be: Curtis Stanford Jr., Harvey Stanford, Ricky Snell, Brad Snell, Sammy Word and Don Morrison. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Honey Grove.
Garland Joe Stanford was born July 16, 1923 in Glenwood, Arkansas to Thomas Richard and Arelia V. (Allen) Stanford. He married Tommie Louise Flowers in Honey Grove on December 20, 1945. By profession Garland was an auto mechanic and also was a machine mechanic at Campbell Soup Co. for almost 23 years before he retired in 1988. He was very active in his church serving as a Trustee and Treasurer of the First Christian Church in Honey Grove where he was member since 1947. He also took care of the maintenance of the church building.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers; William Stanford, Curtis Stanford and Hurl Stanford.
He is survived by his wife, Tommie of the home, one daughter, Brenda and husband Jimmy Hevron of Whitehouse, TX; 5 sisters, Norma Sealy of Seagoville, TX, Wonzel Goggins of St. Louis, MO, Jo Bramlett of Dallas, TX, Janice Finnell of Ector, TX and Margaret Gilbert of Bonham, TX; 2 brothers, Bill and wife June Flowers of Bonham, TX and Bob and wife Nina Flowers of Paris, TX. He is further survived by a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Many people of Honey Grove will remember Garland from his years on the baseball field where he umpired little league and pony league games for more than 20 years.
