Thomas Jefferson Rains
DONGOLA - Thomas Jefferson Rains, 84, died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 1995, in Union County Hospital in Anna.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with burial in Walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Rains was born Feb. 4, 1911, in Grand Tower to Fount and Lulabell (Jones) Rains.
He married Essie Madgeline Ellis on Dec. 7, 1931, in Murphysboro. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Thomas Edward Rains of Murphysboro and Earl Eugene Rains of Pomona; four daughters, Betty Jean Deck of Gillespie, Frieda Marie Tripp of Pomona, Joyce Ann Leeper of Murphysboro and Regenia Sue Ebberts of Dongola; 27 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret of St. Louis; and one aunt of Granite City.
One son, Steven Lee Rains, and three grandchildren, Gerald Irving Deck, Leonard Ray Tripp Jr. and Dianne Whelchel, preceded her in death.
