MURPHYSBORO - Ova Etherton, 87, formerly of Murphysboro, passed away at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, in Spring Creek Nursing Home in Murray, Ky.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, in Pettett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Grammer officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Dutch Ridge Cemetery.

Ova was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Pomona to Charles Grammer and Hattie (Fleming) Grammer.

She had worked in the accounting department at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Mrs. Etherton was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carbondale.

Ova married Claude W. Etherton on Oct. 26, 1936 in Wychiffe, Ky., and he preceded her in death April 9, 2004.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Etherton and his wife, Donna Etherton, of St. Charles, Mo., and Virgil Etherton of Puryear, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Inez Blessings of Murphysboro, Bernice Allison of Springfield and Gussie Brunty of Murphysboro.

She was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Kathleen Etherton; four brothers, Nelson, Wilbur, Clifton and Chester Grammer; one sister, Lucille Adams; and her parents.
