Edward "Ed" Koenig, 73, of Murphysboro, passed away at 6:04 pm Sunday Nov. 5, 2006 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Services will be at 11 am Thurdsday, Nov. 9, 2006 in St. Andrew Catholic Church, with Father Gary Gummersheimer officiating. Burial will be at Murdale Gardens of Memory.

Ed was born on March 13, 1933 in Murphysboro to Edward L. Koenig and Catherine (Gillooly) Koenig.

Ed married Shirley Smith on Feb 11, 1961 in Murphysboro and she survives.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Koenig was an accountant and a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, where he had be a former trustee of the church, and was a past member of St. Andrew Parish Council. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 988, a past Grand Knight and a fourth degree Knight. He was a past board member and member of Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce, a member of Elk's lodge 572.

He was a member of VFW, where he served as quartermaster and was a past commander. He was a member of Paul Stout American Legion Post 127. He loved baseball and was an avid Cardinal Fan and managed the American Legion and Red Wings Baseball Team, as well as Little League Team.

Other survivors inclulde one daughter and son in law Cindy and David Holt of Murphysboro; two grandchildren, Christian and Michelle Hold of Murphysboro; two sisters, Betty Perschbacher and Loretta Reiman and her husband, Teddie Joe, of Murphysboro;two aunts, Sue Gillooly and Mary King of Murphysboro; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanne Etherton, and his parents.
