Certificate of Disability for Discharge.

William A. Etherton a private of Captain Charles W. Whitsides Company, [I], of the sixth Calvary Regiment of United States Illinois volunteers was enlisted by Capt R. Lofomis, of the same regiment and calvary at DuQuoin, Perry Co, ILLs on the fifth day of November 1861, to serve three years; he was born in Cocke County in the state of Tennessee, is thirty eight years of age, five feet ten inches high, fair complexion, hazel eyes, gray hair, and by occupation when enlisted a farmer.

During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty sixty days.

The soldier was well when enlisted, but has had the diarrhea so much that he is now and has been for two months past unable for duty.

I certify that I have carefully examined the said William A. Etherton of Captain Chas W. Whitside Company, and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of chronic diarrhea & exhaustion, cause camp life. Disability total & contracted since enlistment. Recovery not to be expected.

Discharged this sixteenth day of September, 1862 at Memphis, Tenn under general order No. 36 of April 7, 1862.
