David E. Raines, age 73 of Murphysboro passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023 in his home.

He was born in Murphysboro on June 12, 1950 to James and Doris (Schuster) Raines.

On June 12, 2004 he married Carol Jacquot. They have shared 29 years of a loving relationship making wonderful lasting memories.

David had worked for CIPS and Ameren Electric Company for 40 years. He was a Leatherman, making anything from leather, saddles; belts; wallets; knife sheaths and the list goes on.

He grew up fishing in the Big Muddy River. He loved fishing; hunting deer, rabbit and squirrel. He also loved horses and enjoyed training them. He also loved motorcycles.

He enjoyed woodworking, operating a saw mill and even building his own log cabin with help from family.

If it was broke, he would take it apart and fix it. David was considered Mr. Fix-it.

David is survived by his loving wife, Carol of Murphysboro; children, Aimee Bradley of Herrin; Chad (Tali) Myers of Eldorado and Stephanie (TC) Stewart of Vergennes; grandchildren, Ashley (Cory) Wilson; Payton (Kyle) Logan; Ginger (Austin) Woolley; Summer Bradley (Austin Gale); Chad Myers, Jr.; Olivia Myers and Tyson Stewart; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Kay Morefield of Marion; Gary (Judy) Raines of Murphysboro and Debbie Moore of Carbondale; his faithful friend and companion, Tinker; other relatives and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Raines; in-laws, Wilbur & Lillian Jacquot; a granddaughter, Tia Stewart and a brother-in-law, Joe Moore.

Funeral Services for David E. Raines will be Monday, November 13, 2023 at 1:00 pm in Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Shadowens officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

At 4:00 pm there will be a Celebration of Life at the Elks Lodge in Murphysboro.

Expressions of love may be directed to City Hope Church and/or General John A. Logan Museum in Murphysboro and will be accepted at the funeral home.
