Wilma Moore, age 93, of Murphysboro, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at her home, ending her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born in 1931 to Cyrus Bert and Helen Irene (Etherton) Reeves in Murphysboro, Illinois. On May 20, 1949, she married Kenneth Moore and they have been together for over 76 years.
She was a woman with endless amounts of energy. It was astonishing what she would accomplish in a day and yet be there to greet her husband with a large iced tea and a listening ear when he returned from a long day of pushing dirt around. When she decided to venture outside her home and work, she did what she knew best and cooked for 17 years at schools in the Murphysboro School District. She took great pride in her work and ability to earn her own money. After her retirement she found joy in assisting Claudia Hannah at her dog grooming business. When that ended, she had time to spend with her grandchildren and had an immense influence on her granddaughters. Wilma found refuge in her friendships. She shared a kinship with sister in laws, Shirley, Rachel, and Mary Moore and Roberta Parmley. Together, they shared the up and downs of life.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; children, Beverly (Robert) Barnard, Warren (Lynn) Moore, Roger (Lois) Moore, Callie Moore, Angela (Steve) Swafford, Mark (Angie) Moore; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Bob Reeves and Betty Baseden; and two grandchildren, Roger Nathan Moore and Kenneth Gabriel Moore.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Crain Pleasant Grove – Murdale Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
Her family wishes to express gratitude to Hospice of Southern Illinois for their compassionate care and the caregivers; Veneta, Rhonda, Jessica, Leslie, Sharon, Jamie and Michelle. You ladies made it possible for our mom to remain at home with her dignity intact. We are eternally grateful.
Interment will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
